My name is Kate Brand. I am a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with over a decade of experience in health promotion, disease prevention, and sleep medicine. I created Transform 52 to help and empower individuals to understand what they can do to avoid or even reverse chronic disease by focusing on the foundations of good health (diet, exercise, sleep, and reducing stress and toxins) and making one small change at a time, all year long (52 weeks), year after year. This is not medical advice but rather education and motivation on healthy lifestyle changes that I believe, and evidence-based research shows, will over time lead to lasting results and better health.

After years of working in healthcare and thousands of patients, one thing became very evident…most people think they know what to do to become healthier, but they are going on old and often inaccurate information and America as a whole is getting sicker and sicker. There are dozens if not hundreds of diets with big promises but with mostly short and non-lasting results. The idea that it must be a lifestyle is understood but all of the ways to get there are 10 day and 30-day plans and programs that recommend 10-20 changes overnight.

It is estimated that chronic disease (Obesity, Hypertension, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, etc) accounts for 4.1 trillion in annual healthcare costs in the U.S. each year or roughly 86% of total healthcare costs. More and more patients with each passing year are getting not one but often two or more chronic conditions – resulting in more medical bills, more medicines, more symptoms, more discomfort and less quality of life. Research has also shown that approximately 85-98% of chronic disease is completely avoidable. Unfortunately, unless they have a personal interest in it, most physicians and nurse practitioners have very little education and training on the most current information on diet, nutrition and other lifestyle factors as it relates to overall health.

That’s where Transform 52 comes in! This is the place where we look at the latest evidence-based research, health trends and other lifestyle factors and discuss openly what lifestyle changes you can make to improve your health one change at a time. Not everybody wants to change, and some people just want a pill for whatever problem they have, but if you want to feel better, look healthier, and spend less on medicines and medical bills now and in the future, and you want to do it by just changing some of your lifestyle habits, you have come to the right place!

MISSION & VISION

  • I believe in personal health empowerment through education and motivation.

  • I believe in not getting overwhelmed with perfection and multiple major changes but instead making one change at a time for lasting results.

  • I believe in striving to be a bit better each day than you were the day before.

  • I believe in striving for Optimal not “Normal”.

  • I believe diets, guilt, and shame don’t create long lasting change but understanding what and how to do something does.

  • I believe good healthcare should be as much about preventing disease as it is about treating it.

  • I believe knowing how to prepare your own food is critical for your health as much now as it was hundreds of years ago.

  • I believe in eliminating processed foods as much as possible and eating whole “real” food to make delicious meals.

  • I believe many things (even healthy things) can be bad for us when we have too much – moderation matters.

  • I believe it is not just about weight. You can be skinny and very unhealthy.
