Making Changes
Change is an inevitable part of life. It is one that is sometimes welcome but often dreaded. In the case of one’s personal health, change can be hard to implement, even when needed. Whether that be not knowing what to try next or having trouble getting motivated.
Change is a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately, particularly how people handle change or approach it. A good friend of mine is very well studied in the Eneagram personality typing. Similar to other personality typing systems such as Myers Briggs but much more in depth, the Enneagram is helpful in giving some insight into why people react or behave the way they do in certain situations. It tells us more about their personality and how they are motivated. After giving this some thought, I would bet that there is at least a small fraction of commonality in the personalities of those of us who have gone into healthcare and medicine. There is perhaps something about our desire to help others and ensure their happiness that reflects in our personalities. It is certainly an aspect of mine and the driving force behind my decision to go into healthcare many years ago. It remains my motivator and largely what has driven me into the health promotion and disease prevention side of healthcare.
As with my change in focus over my years of practice, the time has come to make some changes to this endeavor to hopefully gather better outcomes when it comes to helping people improve their health. In the next month, The Health and Wellness NP will be undergoing some re-branding to align more with the direction for the future and my upcoming book. The blog will also be making a change over to a podcast in the next couple months. This decision has been delayed for some time as I love writing. In fact, something you likely don’t know about me is that I haven’t always been a nurse or nurse practitioner. My first degree was in communications and business with a focus on journalistic style writing. The blog has been a therapeutic rewind back to my earlier days. However, times are changing and even I must admit that podcasts are easier to consume. My love for writing will step to the side as I finish my book and will make room for a newer style of reaching those who want to take the bull by the horns (so to speak) when it comes to their own health. There might be room for some hesitation or concern as I make this change and embrace something new, however, one of the things I am pretty sure I do better than writing is talking. So, stay tuned to the website and on Instagram for this big change and several others that are in the works. Hang in there with me as I change direction and take on some new challenges in an effort to grow healthier with you. Together, let’s transform health!
